CIREFE Summer Programs: Registration open for 3 distinct programs

The Rennes International Centre for the Study of French (CIREFE) at Rennes 2 University is the largest university center for teaching French as a foreign language (FLE) in Brittany. Offering a rich academic program and diverse cultural activities, it welcomes hundreds of students of different nationalities every year. Each summer, they offer 3 distinct programs, two for French learners and one for teachers of French as a foreign language.

An Enriching Learning Experience in the heart of a Vibrant City

The CIREFE invites you to join them in Rennes this summer for a unique and pleasant stay for those looking to immerse themselves in the French language and culture while enjoying the best of what the capital city of Brittany and its surrounding environment have to offer. 

Located at the heart of the Rennes 2 University campus, CIREFE enables international students to live among French students, take courses in the university's departments, participate in the campus's associative and cultural life, and enjoy a specific cultural program.


2 Programs for French-learners

The 3-week summer classes program (Cours d'été) starting in June.

From June 24  to July 12, 2024, this program offers separate courses for: beginners, A1 through the B1 level, as well as intermediate level learners, B2 - C2 levels. Included in this program are:

  • Approximately 18 hours of in-person French lessons per week to make progress in written and oral comprehension and oral expression
  • a choice of one optional course for CEFR level B2 and above (including Cinema and Economics).
  • with a maximum of 15 students per group
  • 7 ECTS credits
  • one excursion per week to discover Brittany
  • cultural outings (cinema, museum, festival, etc.).

Summer School (Université d'été) in August

A preparatory program for studying at a French university, offering:

  • A 2- or 4-week programme from August 5 to August 30,  August 2024 
    • (for 2 weeks : August 5 – August 16  / or August 19 – August 30)
  • 41 hours of in-person French lessons per fortnight (i.e. 82 hours for 4 weeks) in written and oral comprehension and expression
  • open to all levels, including beginners (CEFR)
  • program including 14 hours of Civilisation (levels A1, A2, B1) or of French for University Purposes (levels B2, C1, C2)
  • a maximum of 15 students per group
  • one excursion per fortnight to discover Brittany
  • cultural outings (cinema, museum, festival, etc.).

1 specific program for training to teach French as a foreign language

Are you a French or international student or teacher who would like to acquire new skills in teaching and learning French as a foreign language, or improve your existing skills?

The CIREFE offers a one--week program from July 1 to July 6, 2024, which includes:

  • a one-week face-to-face program to train in FLE teaching/learning methodology and/or deepen your knowledge and skills in these areas
  • developed for French and international teachers and students.
  • experience and tips from seasoned teachers who work at the CIREFE and welcome FLE students throughout the year
  • a course combining fundamental knowledge, a fun approach and the use of digital technology.
  • 21.5 hours of classes / workshops
  • training which includes a cultural program (Wednesday excursion and cultural outings in the city).

The CIREFE is a member of ADCUEFE - Campus FLE, an association of nearly 40 French university centers for international students. In 2008, it was awarded the French government's Qualité FLE label, which will be renewed for the fourth time in November 2021.
