The conference will seek to explain the worldwide success of Scandinavian literature and cinema through the phenomenon of Nordic Noir (crime novels, film noir, television series, etc.). Three tracks will be explored: the emotions that Nordic cultural production mobilizes to create a particular atmosphere nourished by a specific imaginary of the North; the fascination for the North that has been exerted on Western culture since Antiquity (called borealism) and that is reactualized by contemporary discourse; and finally the political dimension and the engagement in the critique (positive or negative) of the Nordic model and its possible revival.

This event, organized by the Language Center, teaching of Swedish, jointly with the BU, has received the support of the Swedish Institute.

MEETING | NORTHER IRELAND AFTER THE GOOD FRIDAY AGREEMENT

March 24, 5:15 p.m., BU central room

Bilingual meeting with Lesley Lelourec and Grainne O'Keeffe

Discussion around the poignant political topic and the book "Northern Ireland After the Good Friday Agreement: Building a Shared Future from a Troubled Past?" (Reimagining Ireland, 99)  which was published under the direction of the two researchers.

Good Friday

Abstract: "The current 'decade of centenaries' and commemorations on both sides of the Irish Sea are providing an opportunity both to reflect upon significant events and challenges that the island of Ireland has been confronted with in the past, and also to contemplate and focus on the future. This multi-disciplinary volume owes much to the ongoing debate within Northern Ireland, as an integral part of the conflict transformation process, on how to build a shared and better future for all citizens out of a dividedand traumatic past. Drawing on the cross-disciplinary nature of Irish studies, the authors from the fields of history, literary and cultural studies, politics and sociology explore the legacy of the Troubles and the consequences for Northern Ireland's present and future".
