In early April, Valeria Pansini, Lecturer in the Applied Foreign Languages Department, visited Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), to discuss possible ways of strengthening and extending the collaboration already underway between the two universities. The trip offered the opportunity to renew the mobility agreement for a five-year term. Under the agreement, Rennes 2 students can send up to 5 of its students to the Southeast Asian country for a study abroad program.
While there, Valeria Pansini was able to meet with various officials in charge of International Relations for the university, as well as the heads of the following faculties: Humanities, Arts, Languages and Social Sciences.
Several specific avenues of cooperation are being pursued:
- Application for an Erasmus+ project (AC 171) to strengthen European university cooperation with partner countries,
- Application by a USM EC for the International Chair in Humanities and Social Sciences at Rennes 2,
- USM's wish to welcome French lecturers or doctoral students, in particular to teach French as a foreign language or hold lectures in History.
The ongoing negotiations mainly concern students in Rennes 2's Master CREEA program.
Universiti Sains Malaysia is a public research university and one of the country's leading science universities. With a total of 30,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students, it is also one of the country’s largest. Its main campus is located on the island of Penang, but they also have a health campus in Kelantan, and an engineering campus in Nibbling Tebal. Along with a number of scientific disciplines, including natural sciences, medical sciences, and building sciences and technology, the institution also offers courses in tthe arts, humanities and education.
