EMERGE: A Stronger Dynamic with New Projects for Rennes 2 and Partners

In response to the European Commission's latest call for proposals for European University Alliances, the 9 higher education institutions that make up the EMERGE (Empowering the Margins of Europe through Regional and Global Engagement) consortium applied in February 2024 to join the network of European universities.

Since 2018, four different Erasmus+ calls have been launched to support the creation of European universities. To date, 50 alliances have been formed under the European University Initiative, bringing together more than 430 higher education institutions, including 51 French institutions, from 35 different countries. This latest call will fund a further 12 to 14 European universities, reaching the target of 60 alliances supported by the Commission.

EMERGE member universities aim to work together on a wide range of interdisciplinary training and research programs at the service of their academic communities and territories. The consortium comprises :

  • University of Limerick (UL) /Ireland (Coordinator)
  • Université Rennes 2 (UR2) /France
  • Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) /Greece 
  • Europa-Universität Flensburg (EUF) /Germany 
  • Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences (INN) /Norway 
  • Neapolis University Pafos (NUP) /Cyprus 
  • Universidade da Coruña (UDC) /Spain 
  • Université Bretagne Sud (UBS) /France 
  • Univerzita Mateja Bela v Banskej Bystrici (UMB) /Slovakia

Pending publication of the results (early July 2024), the universities of the EMERGE consortium are continuing to actively strengthen their cooperation through specific projects under the European Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe programs.

A number of projects are currently being prepared:

KA2 Erasmus+ Call: Sustainability and digitalisation in connecting sports and gamification : a collaboration and motion project

Horizon Europe Call: Strategies to strengthen the European linguistic capital in a globalised world

By taking advantage of the new opportunities offered by the Erasmus+ program, EMERGE partners are developing the sharing of experiences and practices, proposing innovative forms of teaching and offering new mobility opportunities for students and staff. Several short mobility programs (Blended intensive programs / Staff weeks) will be organized between May and June at various partner institutions (UL, DUTH, UR2, UDC, INN).
