Conference hosted by Spanish writer Almudena Grandes on "Episodios de una guerra interminable: entre ficción y memoria"

This conference, presented in Spanish, is being organized by the Spanish Department and the ERIMIT research team at Rennes 2.

Through her novels, Almudena Grandes offers us a real reflection on writing about collective memory and identity building. A mirror of Spanish society and a chronological complement, it produces an immense six-volume panorama. Los pacientes del doctor García was published in 2017 and covers a quarter of a century of history from 1939 to 1964. War, Franco's oppression, convulsions of resistance, dictatorship, terror and emigration. Through her characters, she brings to life a project worthy of the great writers of the 19th century, of a Balzac or the Spaniard Pérez Galdós (1843-1920).

During this conference, Almudena Grandes will talk more particularly about her conception of literature, her commitment to the reconstruction of memory in Spain, her readings and her struggles.
