Since 2019, Rennes 2 University and 8 other higher education institutions have been working together on a wide range of interdisciplinary projects within the framework of the EMERGE consortium (Empowering the Margins of Europe through Regional and Global Engagement). Our aim is to build a new long-term joint strategy with a bottom-up approach which impacts and supports all of our areas of activities for our students, territories and communities.

Our universities come together around the theme of spatial and societal margins, focusing on societal issues involving minorities or marginalized groups. EMERGE's teaching and research projects will be developed around the alliance's keywords: inclusion, solidarity, resilience, multilingualism/multiculturalism and sustainability. Five themes that resonate closely with the identity of Rennes 2.
European funding will enable the alliance to step up internationalization, in particular by offering short-term and hybrid mobility schemes to reach out more to precarious students, as well as integrating regional minority languages into the program and eventually setting up joint European degrees.
