Objectives

The overall objective of the degree is to provide students with a good command of language and knowledge in the field of Chinese culture by instilling critical thinking and writing skills through an introduction to research.

Skills

In addition to enhancing knowledge of Chinese language, literature and civilization, the degree provides skills for:

  • conducting research

  • developing the ability to independently summarize and analyse documents

  • project design, development and planning

  • presenting a problem and formulating hypotheses

  • writing in line with formal constraints.

It also involves developing Chinese language skills and gaining an in-depth knowledge of the general issues involved in the discipline (linguistic, literary, historical, etc.).

Course Content

The degree takes a progressive approach to the development of research skills over the four semesters, the aim of which is proficiency in the scientific methodology needed to write a summary and analysis document.

Year 1 offers modules in modern Mandarin Chinese (translation to and from Mandarin Chinese, preparation for competitive examinations), classical literature, sociology, etc. and participation in research seminars on various themes depending on studies in progress and guest speakers. Students must design and develop a research question and relevant bibliography to be submitted at the end of the year in preparation for the final dissertation.

Year 2 offers a continuation of the year 1 modules. The research dissertation is finalized under the supervision of a lecturer-researcher.

Throughout the course, there are conferences led by industry professionals to prepare students for different work environments. Internships are also recommended for this purpose.
