Objectives

The Russian department offers a wide range of students the opportunity to study Russian language and culture as a single disciplinary specialization to acquire skills in the following areas:

  • Linguistic (proficiency in written and spoken Russian);

  • Cultural (literature, cinema, theatre);

  • Historical, political and economic.

Skills

Graduates will be able to express themselves both orally and in writing in Russian and French. They will also be able to translate from and into both languages but with more fluency translating into their mother tongue. They will acquire a sound knowledge of Russian culture, history and civilization and will therefore be able to work with Russian nationals, for example in the tourism or sales sectors. With additional training, they will be able to work in the import-export industry with Russian-speaking countries. Their linguistic and cultural skills will also enable them to work in the French tourism sector in Russia as well as in teaching Russian.

Course Content

Three-year Bachelor’s Degree with:

  • Differentiated pathways in year 1 (L1), depending on whether students have studied Russian at high school.

  • Joint modules in year 2 (L2) and year 3 (L3).

Russian is progressively introduced as a language of communication. Classes are delivered in French in year 1, in both French and Russian in year 2 and in mainly Russian in year 3.

In addition, the classes, which are general in year 1, become increasingly focused on current events in Russia as the course progresses, with the offer of a variety of options in addition to the language options: politics, economics, geopolitics, history, literature and culture.
