Life Artisan Project: "Achieving Resiliency by Triggering Implementation of Nature-based Solutions for Climate Adaptation at a National Scale"
Presentation
This project involves 28 partners who together will work to demonstrate that all territories can implement 'nature-based climate change adaptation solutions' (NBCCAS).
NBCCAS are defined as "actions to protect, sustainably manage, and restore natural or modified ecosystems to directly address societal challenges, including adaptation to climate change, in an effective and adaptive manner, while ensuring human well-being and generating benefits for biodiversity".
These solutions have the potential to contribute to both climate and biodiversity issues. They also ensure resilience and significant adaptive capacity in the face of unpredictable climate change.
The Life integrated project ARTISAN will help to build the capacity of stakeholders and improve institutional, financial and normative frameworks to remove the obstacles to the generalization of NBCCAS. The medium and long term objective is that the use of these solutions should become a reflex in regional planning. The project at the local level is based on a demonstrator program comprising 10 pilot sites, with significant diversity in terms of location, types of territories, size and nature of the structures involved, and adaptation issues. It collaborates at the regional level with 13 regional platforms thanks to the regional facilitators, and at the national level thanks to the thematic referents.
Within this framework, Rennes 2 University is contributing to the implementation of a demonstrative program through the coordination, advice and monitoring-evaluation of wetland restoration work in a catchment area in Brittany. This work will then lead to the production of recommendations to facilitate the implementation of such wetland restoration action at the head of the catchment area, more generally.
