FAIRPLAY-WT

From Function to Fairness: Advancing Inclusive and Evidence-Based Classification in Wheelchair Tennis

Presentation

FAIRPLAY-WT aims to strengthen fairness, transparency and good governance in wheelchair tennis by developing an evidence-based, sport-specific classification framework aligned with European and international standards.

Through transnational cooperation between academic institutions, national tennis federations and European sport governance bodies, the project will generate harmonised impairment–performance evidence under realistic playing conditions and translate these findings into practical classification tools. By integrating on-court performance assessment with biomechanical impact analysis, the project will quantify how upper-limb and trunk impairments influence key performance determinants such as stroke execution, power generation and functional mobility.

The project will deliver refined class boundary recommendations, joint-specific performance thresholds and harmonised assessment protocols to support consistent classification decisions across Member States.
