The Center is an interdisciplinary research unit at the crossroads between social sciences, environmental sciences and physical and chemical sciences. The research performed is organized around the study of the evolution of human societies over the very long term, from ancient prehistory through the middle ages to the modern period.

CReAAH occupies a leading position in the national field of archaeology and archaeoscience research, a position that has been reinforced over the years. Several fields of research are pursued:

  • Technology, production & Energy
  • Societies, cultures & identities
  • Societies, environments and climates (SMIC)
  • Archaeology of Western France between protohistory and the modern period
